Pre-School (Seedlings)

Welcome to The Early Years Foundation Stage

Routines

Welcome to Seedlings! Doors open at 8:50am and close just after 9am. 

 

Nursery is a free flow environment where we encourage independence and resilience. The children can choose where they play and what they play with. It can get messy so please don’t send them in their favourite clothes.

Seedlings finishes at 11:50am

 

We ask that you keep a spare change of clothes in Seedlings and ensure that your child always has a supply of nappies and wipes if they are needed. Staff will let you know if your child's supply is running low.

 

We ask for a £1 a week voluntary donation for us to provide snacks such as fruit, yoghurts or rice crackers.

Tapestry Learning Journals

 

By now we hope you have all returned your permission slip in order for us to set up your

online tapestry account. This means that you will be able to log in (with your own personalised login details) and view your child’s photos, videos and observations made by the staff. You will have the opportunity to reply to comments that the teacher has made and even upload your own photos or videos from home, which we would love to see. We hope this will enhance our partnership with you in providing your child with the best learning opportunities possible. 

 

If you have any questions about Tapestry or need some help getting logged in and using Tapestry, please email the school office or ask your class teacher.

EYFS Curriculum

 

Our curriculum forms the basis of what drives our provision and practice, and facilitates progress for all children in our school. We offer a co-constructed curriculum which means that practitioners have the freedom to deliver the curriculum in ways that motivate our children by following their interests and planning on a short-term basis to address the current needs of the children. 

 

Our co-constructed curriculum has 3 key elements:

  • Individual children (A Unique Child) – How they learn and what prior knowledge they have. 
  • Practitioners (Positive relationships) – high quality adult interactions! 
  • The Environment (Enabling Environments) – A learning environment that allows children the opportunity to discover and explore. 

 

There are seven areas of learning and development:

  • Communication, Language and Literacy
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

 

The Characteristics of Effective Learning:

These run alongside all areas of learning. When planning and guiding what children learn (skills and knowledge), it is important to reflect on the different rates that children are developing and adjust our practice accordingly. The Characteristics of effective learning are important as this is how children learn.

The 3 Characteristics of effective teaching and learning are:

  • Playing and exploring – children investigate and experience things, and ‘have a go’
  • Active Learning – Children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties, and enjoy achievements
  • Creating and thinking critically – children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things.
